Rick Warren, a leading American Evangelical, says he'd never vote for an atheist
but only for someone who has a religious belief of whatever kind. So he's
basically saying he'd vote for a Satan worshipper over and Atheist. Warren
admits he'd trust someone of another faith, just as long as they put faith in
something greater than ourselves. So, he would trust someone who worships
another god - wasn't there something about this in the First Commandment? - Thou
Shall Not Worship Other Gods -
Interesting.
Being an atheist doesn't mean one
"denies that we need somebody greater than ourselves to help us." It
simply means that one doesn't believe that God exists. Disbelieving in Santa
doesn't mean that I am too arrogant to admit that I can't buy my own presents;
it just means I'm not going to rely on an imaginary man to help me.
In school they taught us that politicians
were accountable to their constituency. That certainly constitutes someone
greater than themselves. And unlike magic sky
man, they might actually hold him accountable! Rick Warren, just like many religious
people need to have a brush up on what priorities are in politics and what the
separation of church and state means.
