award-winning filmmaker Antony Thomas, The Qur'an asks what Islam's holiest
book actually says about issues such as equality, punishment, peace, other
faiths and suicide bombing.
The film is part of a special week of powerful and
thoughtful programmes that aim to de-mystify, as well as celebrate, the world's
most talked-about religion and offer an insight into the lives and beliefs of
Muslims across the globe.
In a follow-up to the initial investigation, a female Dispatches reporter goes
undercover again to see whether extremist beliefs are still being promoted in
certain British Muslim institutions. The documentary also looks at the role of
the Saudi Arabian religious establishment in spreading a hardline Islamic
ideology in the UK.
Christianity was as violent and bloody as Islam has been
throughout the history. It has been only through secularization of the society
and triumph of common sense, laws, citizens and science that it has been finally
put at bay.
And then there is "rationality",
"enlightenment", "logical" and just plain "common
sense" approach to detecting "baloney" when it comes to
conflicting and often times delusional claims of each religion and especially,
the desire of certain religious people to push their particular view of a
"fairy tale" story of creation and morality onto others, including
others of different faiths and non belief.
There is a lot of work to do still to keep up the wall of
separation between church and state. Let's keep the wall strong and high.
